To the mind that is still, the whole universe surrenders. Lao-Tzu
Now I begin to feel that all that is important comes in quietness and waiting; and that activity should be only the working out, the digesting and putting forth of what one learned, so that one may become empty again to receive more. Rodney Collin
A man does not seek to see himself in running water, but in still water. For only what is itself still can impart stillness to others. Chuang Tzu
The still mind of the sage is the mirror of heaven and earth - the glass of all things. Chuang Tzu
One perceives by one's own nature. Because your own nature is essentially pure and utterly still, its immaterial and motionless substance is capable of perception. Hui Hai
Let us make friends with silence, at 'the still point of the turning world'. Then will a new power manifest, the light of intuition. Ego, of course, will intervene with a hundred methods of frustration. Let it die, as a fire dies. Make friends with it, for it is not easily slain. But it can be starved of it's food of selfishness, and die because its owner is just too busy to attend to it. Christmas Humphreys
Silence is the language God speaks and everything else is a bad translation. Fr. Thomas Keating
In limpid souls God beholds his own image. He rests in them and they in Him. Nothing in all creation is so like God as stillness. Meister Eckhart
The Heavenly father utters a word and utters it eternally...To hear it, all voices and sounds must die away and there must be pure quiet - perfect stillness.
The central silence is the purest element of the soul, the soul's most exalted place, the core, the essence of the soul. It is there, where no creature may enter, nor any idea, and therefore the soul neither thinks nor acts, nor entertains any idea, either of itself or of anything else.
My greatest wealth is the deep stillness in which I strive and grow and win what the world cannot take from me with fire or sword.
Learn to be silent. Let your quiet mind listen and absorb.
Nothing is more useful to man than silence.
In listening and stillness there is nobody who is still, and this stillness doesn't refer to any object; it is absolutely objectless; it is our real nature.
Stillness is not a function. You must awaken in this unfurnished stillness.
This quietness is the highest form of intelligence which is never personal, never yours or mine. Being anonymous, it is whole and immaculate. It defies description for it has no quality. This is awareness, this is attention, this is love, this is the highest.
The heart becomes a bare attentiveness, And in that bareness light is born.
Under all speech that is good for anything lies a silence that is better. Silence is deep as eternity. Speech is shallow as time.
By preventing energy from continually flowing away in a noisy stream of efforts and purposes I could make it fill up into a silent pool of clearness.
Your duty is to be, and not to be this or that. 'I am that I am' sums up the whole truth: the method is summarised in 'Be still'. And what does this stillness mean? It means 'destroy yourself', because every name and form is the cause of trouble. 'I - I' is the Self. 'I am this' is the ego. When the 'I' is kept up as the 'I' only, it is the Self. When it flies off at a tangent and says 'I am this or that', 'I am such and such', it is the ego.
This silence, this moment, Every moment, If it's genuinely inside you, Brings what you need.
Now I'll be quiet and let silence separate what is true from what are lies as threshing does.
Stop the words now. Open the window in the centre of your chest and let the spirits fly in and out.
Sit quietly, and listen for a voice that will say, 'Be more silent.'
The One is pure and silent. Why go on talking? The most radiant in me has never said a word.
There is a channel between voice and presence, A way where information flows. In disciplined silence the channel opens; with wandering talk it closes.
There is a tower that Love builds. Live there in silence.
Be quiet in your confusion, and bewildered. When you're completely empty, within that silence, you'll be saying, Lead me.
Be quiet in your mind, quiet in your senses, and also quiet in our body. Then, when all these are quiet, don't do anything. In that state truth will reveal itself to you. It will appear in front of you and ask, "what do you want?"
In silence and serenity one forgets all words; Clearly and vividly THAT appears before one. When one realises it, it is vast and without edges; In its essence, one is clearly aware. Singularly reflecting is this bright awareness, Full of wonder is this pure reflection. Dew and the moon, Stars and streams, Snow in pine trees, And clouds on mountain peaks - From darkness, they glow brightly; From obscurity, they all turn to resplendent light. Infinite wonder permeates this serenity; In this reflection all intentional efforts vanish. Serenity is the final word of all teachings; Reflection is the response to all manifestations. Devoid of any effort, this response, Is natural and spontaneous. Disharmony will arise If in reflection there is no serenity; All will become wasteful and secondary If in serenity there is no reflection. The truth of serene-reflection Is perfect and complete. The hundred rivers flow In tumbling torrents To the great ocean.
The goods of God, which are beyond all measure, can only be controlled in an empty and silent heart.
Empty yourself of everything. Let the mind rest at peace. The ten thousand things rise and fall while the Self watches their return. They grow and flourish and then return to the source. Returning to the source is stillness, which is the way of nature.
All man's miseries derive from not being able to sit quiet in a room alone.
I think 99 times and find nothing. I stop thinking, swim in silence, and the truth comes to me.
Quiet your mind and watch what happens
To be still is to be conscious without thought.
Lose your mind and come to your senses.
"The only way you will ever awaken is through silence, not through analyzation of facts. Not by sorting out good and bad, but through simple silence, letting go. Letting go of all thoughts, all hurts, all the dogmas and concepts. Letting go of those things daily."
Hobbes Deutsch, Jr. May 27, 2017 1:48:47 PM “We have to earn silence… to work for it: to make it not an absence but a presence; not emptiness but repletion. Silence is something more than just a pause; it is the enchanted place where space is cleared and time is stayed and the horizon itself expands.”
"...turn off your mind, relax and float downstream ..."
During a meditation, with my eyes closed but looking into the darkness behind my eyelids, after I had stopped all conscious thoughts except one, which was "Where are you?" I noticed an object in the lower left part of my vision. It was oval shaped with the longer axis horizontal. Radiating from that object like heat radiates from a hot burner or as light radiates from a lit candle was Perfect Stillness and Perfect Silence. It was very specific, not just Stillness and Silence but Perfect Stillness and Perfect Silence. Like a blind man seeing, I was able to "receive" this just as I can feel heat or hear sounds.
